Brick chimneys
Our oldest chimneys are built of brick. Normally, brick is a good building material for chimneys, but due to all conversions to another boiler type or fuel source - eg garbage, solid fuel, gas and the like. which has occurred since the energy crisis in the early 70s, the chimney can quickly break down. The main reason for degradation is that the chimney conditions often change radically during conversion.
The brick chimneys are normally built for high flue gas temperatures and large amounts of flue gas. If the temperature in the flue gases falls too much, for example when you wanted to extract more heat from the combustion process, severe condensation and sulfur precipitation damage occurs. Among other things, moisture creeps into the joints, which are then blown apart during the winter.
Common damage to the chimney masonry will then be cracks or bulges on the upper parts. The chimney can also start to tilt in some direction. In very severe cases, parts of the brick can plunge to the ground. Penetrating condensation water also causes a number of consequential damages.

Damage to the outer casing
Incorrectly dimensioned flues.
If the flue pipes are oversized, condensation occurs before the flue gas leaves the flue pipes. They then rust quickly and damage occurs.

Repair of brick chimneys includes:
- Demolition and re-masonry, jointing of weathered masonry joints.
Installation of protection-classified ascent devices.
Casting of defective concrete foundations.
Lightning protection.
Installation of steel insert pipes, from boilers up to the top of the chimney, etc.
Fall protection.
